A Sith Sidebar
An possible point of interest about the word "sith." A friend of mine has said (though I have made no effort to confirm or refute this) that sith is another spelling of sidhe.
For those of you unfamiliar with the word, the sidhe (pronounced close to "shee") are a type of Celtic fae. Well, actually, they are several types such as the Bean Sidhe (from which we derive banshee) and Daoine Sidhe, generally considered to derive or descend from the Tuatha De Dannan. But the details of this are beyond the scope of this sidebar.
Personally, I find this concept highly amusing. Taken further, the implications are that the sith lords in Star Wars are lords of the Unseelie Court of faerie an interesting and not entirely inaccurate comparison, if more than a little simplistic.
Of course, if the sith lords are unseelie, then the jedi must be seelie fae. Again, simplistic, but when you consider that even the best of them use glamour on mortals to get their way, "jedi mind tricks" to be precise, it seems to be somewhat born out.
Just a thought.
